When Did He Start Using The Name Ki Hajar Dewantara. He was born in Yogyakarta on May 2 1889. Since that time he was no longer using a knighthood in front of his name.
He did that because he wanted to bring himself closer to the people. His given name was raden mas suwardi suryaningrat which he later changed to renounce his connections with the royal family. Ki Hajar Dewantara was raised in the Yogyakarta palace family.
